The recycle4real project was set up by Julie Williams - a textile artist and crafts retailer from Hampshire UK when she decided to set herself a challenge: To create one item a week from recycled items retrieved from her household's rubbish. Julie often uses recycled materials in her work so it would seem that it would not be that hard, however to design and produce one new item a week?

The challenge began on Sunday the 2nd of January 2011 and each project was announced on the blog on a Sunday.

The project had to than be completed, instructions written and published on the blog on the following Saturday evening

The rules for the project are as follows:

1. Each item had to be useful, decorative or both.

2. Each item had to be made almost entirely from recycled / reused materials which would otherwise be discarded.

3. A small amount of materials such as beads and threads which are not recycled were allowed to be added but this was to be kept to a minimum and had to be from Julie's craft stash i.e. Not brought in specially.

4. The items and materials to be used had to be photographed at the start of each project.

5. A photograph of the finished item and a set of instructions was published on the blog at the end of the week.
